Angela is geboren in Lima-Peru, waarzij al tijdens haar opleiding in het Santa Margarita College
koor zong. Eind jaren ’80, tijdens de hoogtijdagen van het terrorisme, was zij vanuit Lima naar
Italië vertrokken om daar haar muziekopleiding te volgen. Gezien haar Italiaanse voorouders had
zij een natuurlijke voorliefde voor het Italiaanse volk. In Rome is Angela afgestudeerd aan het
Saint Louis College of Music, waar zij zich onder begeleiding lerares Cinzia Spata heeft
gespecialiseerd in jazz zang.
In de 7 jaren die zij heeft doorgebracht in Rome heeft zij de Italiaanse taal geleerd en in
tournees met verschillende Italiaanse bands heeft zij de Italiaanse muziek te leren kennen.
Hoewel Angela zich in de loop van de jaren specialiseerde in de Latijns-Amerikaanse ritmes (salsa,
merengue, bossa nova, bolero, nueva trova) kwam haar jeugdliefde, haar passie voor de meer
traditionele Afro-Peruaanse muziek steeds prominenter terug in haar leven. Als tijdens haar jeugd
in Lima heeft zij op deze vrolijke ritmes leren dansen, en deze ritmes hebben haar niet meer
losgelaten.
Toen zij op een dag onderzoek deed naar de origine van haar stamboom, ontdekte zij dat haar
Italiaanse grootvader in Peru verliefd was geworden op een zwarte slavin (haar grootmoeder).
Dat verklaart waarschijnlijk haar passie voor de Afro-Peruaanse ritmes.
Angela woont sinds ’98 in Nederland en heeft met verschillende muzikanten in Nederland en in het
buitenland op vele podia en festivals gespeeld (diverse Jazz festivals in Italië, Vereniging Perú-
Nederland, Vredenburg, Muiderpoorttheater, Dias Latinos, TV programma Big Brother-Duitsland als
achtergrond zangeres van Laura Pausini, diverse Duitse TV programma´s, Duitse film awards als
achtergrond zang van Vanessa Mae, achtergrondzang voor de CD "13" van de Italiaanse band:
Banco del mutuo soccorso opgenomen in Rome-Italië 1994).

From African and Italian ancestors, Angela Maria grew up in Lima at the coast side of Peru, at the
end of the 80’s when the political situation in Peru was very instable because of the terrorism; she
emigrated to Rome-Italy to learn more about the Italian culture and to study jazz vocals at the
Saint Louis music school.
Besides jazz she had the opportunity of learning more about the Italian music and performed with
several bands through Italy, after seven years she departed to The Netherlands where she is
actually fully dedicated to the Peruvian music giving especial attention to the rhythms of the coast.
Angela Is currently working in her first album that will be released soon, the production is in hands
of Tito Manrique, producer, musical director and first guitar of “Afro Peruvian legend” Eva Ayllon.
In this Peruvian fusion production they will be using the complex rhythms of traditional instruments
like the Peruvian cajon (wooden percussion box) and the elegant sound of the Peruvian vals.
